Trouble at ‘t’ mill all sorted!

Thanks to Frank Kimble for flagging up the lack of wordage on the ‘catch this’ pages. They had all vanished into some cyber space cupboard on the edge of reason and I was worried for a while. Being a man who reads rivers and water rather than cyber stuff it was a total mystery. All is well again now though.

I have been down on Windermere for over a week or so now and if you are sitting somewhere nice and warm whilst reading this then spare a thought for yours truly, who has just about re gained sufficient movement in my fingers to type on a key board. Much as I love fishing out there with all the enthusiasm I can muster and then a bit more, this last week has been at times utterly brutal even by Lake District standards. But we have been meeting some decent fish. No real monsters although I have heard of a couple of very good pike being caught, but we have had a few days of four fish and some big ones showing up as well. Mind you there have also been days when this proper winter has taken me back down memory lane to those old fashioned winters when lakes froze and sledging seemed more fun than fishing.

Then the wind drops and we have a day in the sunshine. At times like that when the fells are shining white in the distance and the sun feels warm on the face it really is a pleasure to be fishing. And the pike seem to enjoy those days too with some fine specimens coming to visit the boat. We had a day with John Knifton and his mate Dave that resulted in the first ‘twenty’ of the season as part of a four fish session then a few days later another multi fish day with Steve Walsh that included a four pound trout. Hopefully the weather will ease up by the end of the week and we can say goodbye to the ‘Beast from the East’.

Much as love the snow like any twelve year old, this winter has dragged on far too long and I need to be fishing in conditions than let me feel my finger tips rather than checking the inside of my boots to see if there are any bits of me dropped off and ended down there with the sockage.

So tarra for now, stay safe and keep warm.

PS Don’t forget to look in on those old trout that may be suffering in the cold. Seriously.
