Summer holidays mean BIG PERCH

Web sorted ..look out comedy hackers! Cyber attacks apart…On the fishing front in spite of a piking switch off due to hot water…(22 degrees at one stage) we have had some astonishing days with lots of perch coming to the boat and also some very good roach. In short – loads of superb fish and plenty of delighted anglers. Several youngsters have had their first fish on fabulously summery days and lots of parents have been suitably put in place by smiling offspring. We even had a few days of rain which got the salmon boys excited (and me) but there seemed to be only a small run of fish came in. Hopefully we’ll see more on the next flood. Once temperatures fall a bit we might see a few more pike but to be honest I’m beginning to feel they are best left alone till the autumn switch on, even the fly fishing has quietened down although Tiny and I had seven one evening on Bassenthwaite as well as a near three pound perch. Of interest though is the huge coarse fish explosion in Derwentwater.

With the warm water conditions we have seen vast of schools of small Roach and even a few Rudd dimpling the surface which has to be good for the pike as long as the Cormorants don’t eat em’, Its a busy time of year at the moment so apologies for the brevity of this update but suffice it to say we have had more than a few days of 100+ perch in the boat with some great specimen fish. The bottom left picture is one from a fabulous day afloat trundling worms with Joel and Finn Greasley when we had over a hundred pounds of fish mostly averaging over a pound and at times they were coming in four at a time!!! Phil Williams has posted a short video on his web site showing the Eric’s bloodless perch unhooking technique. this should get you there. http://www.fishingfilmsandfacts.co.uk/?page=vbassenthwaiteperch It’s not perfect as the perch and the sunlight kept getting in the way but its a step in the right direction. So that’s all for now. Enjoy the summer as the nights are drawing in and my thoughts are turning to salmon fishing as well as those monster pike of Windermere!!
