July, ..Rain and sunshine and fishes…lots of ’em
July 22nd, 2009
Well its July, and the past few weeks have seen us enjoying some truly great fishing. From productive days with trout to some cracking perch fishing and several exceptional sessions with the pike. It seems not to matter where we go as there are good fish to be had all over the place- and there are lots of smiling anglers out there. Stalwart regular Alan Postlewaite came up and had several good perch over a hundred fish day or two, lotsof visitors have had memorable days afloat with plenty of action and shoals of youngsters have got themselves hooked on fishing. But two days really stand out- The first and catch of the month being a first salmon for Becky Hendry. We’ve had a few trout before and shes a good angler but there were some anxious moments when this 12+ lb cock salmon grabbed the flying C and set off airborne before the usual epic ensued. Ten minutes later and safely in the net we did the honours with the camera and slipped the fish back. Not bad for an eleven year old! The previous day Bennet Hogg and I went prospecting a new water… and had these two superb specimens of Lake District pike as well as three others and several good perch. Beyond this most of the lakes and rivers have been fishing well and with extra water coming into the system things are setting up nicely for the rest of the summer. I’m having a look at my favourite tench pond next week and we’re off to Norway later this month for a few days fishing around the Guala valley. I’ll let you know how we get on and hope you all have as good a fishing adventures as you deserve.
